Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam during 10th century. The two kings ( Dinh & Le ) had chosen this place for its advantages in preventing enemies. In Hoa Lu, you will see two temples worship the two kings, those temples were first built in 15th century, during the war time, they were all destroyed, then the people live in this area rebuilt them in 17th cent with the same structure - imperial palace structure. You will also see the King Dinh‘s tomb on top of one mountain & when you are there, you can see the whole scenery of the ancient capital. Recently, the Vietnamese archaeologists has found the track of the palace that had been covered up by the war. The small bamboo craft goes along a fresh stream in the rice field and around the mountains in a peaceful countryside with you on it, that is Tam Coc - " Ha Long Bay on the rice field". You go throughout the mountains on such boat by natural made tunnels. | ||||||||||||||||||

Phat Diem Cathedral is 121km South of Hanoi and 29 km South-East of Ninh Binh town. Phat Diem Cathedral is one of Vietnamese architectural masterpieces, convering over two hectares (five acres) and consisting of a lake, a grand Cathedral with five separate side chapels, three artificial grottoes, and a majestic bell tower named Phuong Dinh. Of special interest for the visitor to this particular Catholic Church, is its unique style of architecture, which resembles a buddhist temple or pagoda, characterized by several tires of overhanging curved roofs. The building of Phat Diem Cathedral was work of Father Tran Luc, more popularly known as Father Sau, the Then Parish Priest of Phat Diem, and was accomplished in the fourteen years between 1875-1899. Phat Diem was a simple Parish, eventually becoming the seat of the New Diocese in 1901. Doubtless to say, had Phat Diem Cathedral been built by a European Missionary, it would probably resemble most other Catholic Churches of the time. Instead, it has become one of the most uniquely important Churches ever to be built in Asia. |
