HA LONG BAY - cat ba island

Ha Long Bay -  a special area of 1,553 square km with over 3000 islands extends across the gulf of Ton kin near Chinese border. Due to its typical terrain of sea depression dotted with limestone islands, 300 square km over it was recognized as the world natural heritage by the World Heritage Committee legend this breathe- taking land and seascape was formed by a giant dragon and a herd of children dragons. After descending into the sea to help Vietnamese people defense our land. Geologists, however, are more likely to attribute the formations to sedimentary stone that formed here between 300 and 500 million years ago, in the Paleozoic Era. Over millions of years water receded and explored the limestone to winds, rain and tidal erosion and made significant natural palaces like Sung Sot, Thien Cung, Dau Go etc.. grottos where you may be cheated to be in a fairy land. Thus in 1994, the UNESCO had  recognized Ha Long Bay as one of the heritage's World.

Cat Ba island – legendary name “Cac Ba” which means “women” is thought the place to prison women convicted in a long time ago. Recently fishmen have come turning the island in to a big common home of fishing. Cat Ba island is the largest one in Ha Long bay 1354 square km with over 12,000 citizens. Cat Ba town is regarded as mini Hong Kong by tourists. Presently, hundred of hotels, restaurants, bars, karaoke-bars, etc... have been mushrooming. However, just 10 km away from the center you can find wildly steep spines of mountain, narrow valleys and waterfalls, lush wetlands, two pretty golden beaches, and one of Vietnam’s most beautiful National park. The parks  was established in 1986 to protect flora and fauna in a half of the island and the sea life of the surrounding inshore waters. Included in these eco-systems are tropical evergreen forests, 15 kinds of mammals (including wild boars and hedgehogs), 200 species of fish, 21 species of birds, and 640 species of plants.

All these can be witnessed by trekking to a peak of mountain and get the panoramic view from the tower at the top. Otherwise you may take a long trek through the National Park, passing the Frog Lake and 6 mountains in fresh air, enjoying birds singing, and reaching Viet Hai village – a real fishing village in peace and quiet
